The STPIS spirit

Less stiff formal presentations and more collaborative growth.

Perspective: “Beyond the Algorithm: Reclaiming the ‘Social’ and ‘Human’ in Information Systems”. Our perspective promotes a highly sophisticated social integration and use of technology while challenging a status quo of “tech-first” solutions.

Why STPIS is Different? While many conferences focus on “publish or perish,” STPIS is built on the philosophy of community-driven mentorship and integration of multiple sociotechnical perspectives.

What makes us Special?

The “Work” in Workshop: We value dialogue over monologues. Our workshop is designed with generous time for community based deep-dive discussions, allowing you to refine your ideas and insights with global experts in Socio-Technical Systems.

Transdisciplinary DNA: We are the bridge between computer science, sociology, psychology, and management. If your work feels “too social” for tech venues or “too techy” for social science, you have found your home.

Constructive Atmosphere: Our review process is recognized for being supportive. We focus on helping authors elevate their work from “interesting idea” to “robust contribution.”

The L’Aquila Experience: Hosted at the Palazzetto dei Nobili, the 2026 edition offers an intimate, historic setting that encourages networking over Italian espresso rather than crowded convention halls. Not to forget that L’Aquila is the Italian 2026 Capital of Culture.

Our Community:

STPIS is known for its practically oriented, informal character, workshop and social networking. This includes our embracement of the Scandinavian tradition of “Fika” during our workshop as well as the orientation of our pleasantly unpretentious but excellent Social Dinner.

Unique Feature: “Theory Meets the Real World”

At STPIS, we recognize that some of the most complex socio-technical challenges aren’t found in labs, but in boardrooms and on factory floors. That’s why we integrate our conference with our core tradition of hosting a dedicated Industrial Workshop.

Case over Theory: This is a space for researchers, practitioners, consultants, and industry leaders to present “tales from the trenches.” We value applied insights over formal academic frameworks.

Collaborative Problem Solving: Unlike traditional sessions, this workshop uses an interactive clinic format. Presenters bring a specific real-world organizational challenge, and our community of socio- technical experts brainstorms solutions in real-time.

Actionable Networking: Connect with researchers and professionals who specialize in Socio- Technical Analysis and Design to find new methodologies for your research and / or business challenge
